Cannock MIllWe are pleased to announce that LoCo cohousing (now Cannock Mill Cohousing) has bought historic and grade II listed Cannock Mill, Old Heath, Colchester, CO2 8AA and two acres of land to build the first Passivhaus cohousing in Essex.  Already with planning permission to conserve the Mill and build 23 homes, the site means the end of a search that has taken the group to all points of the compass around London.

Colchester is a great place for us; it’s vibrant and energetic, its history gives a real sense of place and yet beautiful countryside is all around.

Cannock Mill, is in the Bourne Valley, a green oasis within a mile of Colchester’s centre.  The land sits below the National Trust’s Bourne Mill and we want to restore our own mill’s pond to its former glory.

Sue York, Chair summed up the feelings of the group ‘Acquiring a site is a momentous event for a cohousing group. We now have our location, location, location and, as we enter an exciting new phase in our project, we hope that this beautiful site, along with our ethos and values, will encourage more people to join us.’
